25 listensQuite honestly the best album I’ve heard that’s made entirely from samples. If DJ Shadow’s Endtroducing had a chill ass brother, Since I Left You would be it LOL. Both albums are some of the best sample-based albums I’ve heard. While Endtroducing is all dark, grim, and downtempo, Since I Left You is humorous, relaxed, and upbeat. I think the reason I prefer this more to Endtroducing is because it’s more accessible. I can listen to this when I’m studying, on the subway, with friends, etc. I would only listen to Endtroducing when I wanna be all introspective sitting in bed at night LOL. Sometimes, that album takes itself way too seriously LOL.
Just to throw it out there, this album is made from over 4000 samples including movie dialogues. Since I Left You is also supposed to play like a love story - “an international search for love from country to country. The idea of a guy following a girl around the world and always being one port behind her. And that was because we had all these records from all over the world, and we’d like to use that stuff.” - The Avalanches
